Shingle calculator FAQ

Waste, coverage, and rounding are the usual sources of a bad material count.

How do I calculate how many shingle bundles I need?

Start with the sloped roof area, add a waste allowance, then divide by the coverage printed on the bundle. This calculator always rounds up to a whole bundle.

Why can I edit coverage per bundle?

Three bundles per square is a common default, but packages are not identical. Use the coverage from the product you are buying rather than treating 33.33 sq ft as a universal rule.

Is the dollar amount a full project price?

No. An optional price per bundle produces a materials-only subtotal. Labor, tear-off, underlayment, and disposal are excluded.
